On Friday, Twitter India released in the tricolor an icon specially designed to mark India’s 71st Republic Day.
President Ram Nath Kovind is scheduled to tweet with this emoji on 25 January during his speech to the nation, according to Twitter India, as people throughout the country travel to Twitter for public talks.
“We think the 2020 emoji would echo the Republic day, offering Indians a cause and a way to celebrate and take part in public discussions, across languages, cultures and time zones,” said Mahima Kaul, Director, Public Policy, India and South Asia, Twitter India, in a tweet.
The emoji will live in the languages of Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Urdu and Gurmukhi up to January 30 and are available in English as well as ten Indian languages.
This is Twitter’s fifth year in India with a personalized emoji.
The social media platform celebrates, amongst other key events and activities, Independence Day, Diwali, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti, with creative emojis that hold Indian culture and feeling in mind.
